how the fuck do i pick a pen name?
ugh.
got the front book cover designed. got the title on it. don't want to use my real name since it's about bad christians and i have family to think about.
I did. I already read those tips on a few different sites.
It takes me forever to pick screen names and email addresses.
It took me 6 months to pick the book title.
I may get this bitch published before I die.
Hi Billy. You used a word I have filtered, so I can't see your post, but I can still see you. 😂💞
@JoyfullyDazed Oh that's weird! Did I say something offensive or was it an accident?
And I posted a Mitch Malloy vid earlier of him doing Hot For Teacher but didn't tag you because it wasn't with Ed 👍 @Oma_Trisha
I don't have many words filtered, just NFL words (hate football...lol), any form of the word spider, and a few random others. Hmmm. 🤔
Anyway, thanks for the non-tag 😂 You know VH is all about Eddie for me.
Oma, sorry for taking over your thread for a few seconds. Hope your pen name comes to mind easily. 💞
I picked a name that honored my father by using his middle name as my last name. Combine two names that have meaning to you.
Just an idea.
Good luck. 😊
@JoyfullyDazed Thanks. My parents were abusive so those names are out. I'll have to do some thinking. That's a good idea, though.
You got this!!! 👍💞
@Oma_Trisha What about an anagram of your own name or your favorite pet?
Remember the story of the dude who put his cat as co-author of a physics paper - the cat's name was Chester, but his colleagues might recognize that name, so he named the co-author F. D. C. Willard (Felis Domesticus Chester and Willard after the cat's dad.) 😄
A place you've visited (or want to) could be used as a last name. Or a favorite color or food, stick it in google translate and try it in different languages.
I got one, but thanks. It's a shorter version of my first and middle names followed by the last name of a TV character I respected (because my family is too fucked up to use any of theirs).
@Oma_Trisha
First names on pieces of paper in one bowl.
Last names in another.
Draw one from each.
Add a random middle initial.
If you hate it, keep doing it until one feels just right.
I actually used my nickname, half my middle name, and the last name of a character I admire on TV because my family is a walking soap opera, so using any of those names is out of the question. I actually like what I decided on. It's easy to remember and rather catchy. Now I just need to wait for my grandson to finish the cover design so I can put the title on it. I still haven't done my bio. I don't know what to put on there. I don't want to scare people away.
@Oma_Trisha Oh that's tricky.
Try to focus on talking about your writing. How long, other work, your inspirations etc.
@Oma_Trisha @stueytheround Look at what other authors have done in your genre. Look at several. Find an approach that you like and copy that with your information.
If it was me I would open Amazon and look inside the books for the author blurb.
@Oma_Trisha @stueytheround After making all of these decisions I would let them settle overnight just in case I felt the need to change something. Once you commit you're committed so make sure you're happy with everything.
@Oma_Trisha Ask Alfred as a starting point? 🤔
