@OPSVeracity Hasn't the crime rate done weird things, tho? Like some things are not up (your graph), but murder was up substantially. Simple theft too, I think, no time to look. Was trending up a bit pre-pandemic, IIRC, but jumped hard during it.

my original post didn't say murder nor does it included it in the chart - murder rate is what you said. The FBI data you're providing doesn't include NY or Los Angeles, which will bring down the rate as the PER CAPITA tabulations would have to be revised
@OPSVeracity No it doesn't. Read more closely. While the article mentions that it is tied to gun violence (and properly makes a big deal about gun violence) , the actual murder rate, from all methods, rose ~28% from 2019.
Listen, I don't disagree with what I think is your main point, but we can;t just act like the murder increase didn't happen.
