Excellent! More STEM fewer lawyers is what is needed in governing governing bodies
From the lab to the legislature: STEM professionals run for political office
More than 200 science, technology, engineering, and math professionals are candidates at the state and municipal level this year.
@TrueBloodNet yup from the lowest levels to the highest
@NorthernInvader that’s fantastic!
@NorthernInvader I'm down for the S and (some of) the T and the M, but engineers... too many in my family to think that'll lead to good outcomes. (Let's just say they tend toward conservatism and away from empathy.) Maybe we double up on the life-sciences folk?
@agunn true they do seem to trend that way it seems but they are educated (need more in the arts in ubi) and because their profession demands rigid analysis less likely to fall for conspiracy BS if they are at all competent in their profession.
Still more science always :).
@NorthernInvader One of the challenges here is that a politician just does politics as their career. They can bullshit allllll day long.
Someone who has an _actual_ vocation has to _give up_ their career in whatever they were good at and educated in to jump into politics.
@AskTheDevil That's pretty much the same everywhere. The difference factor now is #climatechange and the current crop of politicians unwilling or unable to do anything really serious about the causes thereof.
@NorthernInvader I REALLY wish they'd require platform statements from school board members. This is where we need to put STEM folks.
