@NorthernInvader Problem is he's been treated 'special' by the justice system all his life. And especially post J6th. Otherwise we would not still be waiting for them to actually do something about him.

@TrueBloodNet True but the standard of proof has to be much higher for a former POTUS than it does for John/Jane Doe. It doesn't seem like it should in this instance given who it is, but it's not just about him it's about every politician going forward, in order to protect against political interference by an opposing party. Even selecting a jury for such will be filled with pitfalls , If MAGAs are not selected it will play into DFG's hand, and of course if they are then the same.

@NorthernInvader @TrueBloodNet
It’s lose/lose for us. That’s why there are some decisions that have to be enacted knowing they’ll be challenged in court.

@Jeber @TrueBloodNet It's not so much the current situation - we all know DFG will appeal any decision he doesn't like in order to delay others, it's how setting such a precedent could be deliberately politically misused in the future.

I don't doubt Garland will file criminal charges against DFG if he feels he has a surety of evidence to convict beyond any reasonable doubt.

@NorthernInvader @Jeber That's not how the law should work. If someone commits the crime you shouldn't wait for a sure thing to get them off the streets or in this case, off the ballots, off the streets and establish that no American is above the law.

@NorthernInvader I strongly disagree with that idea because that elevates him to higher than the normal citizen as regards the law. That is wrong.

@TrueBloodNet We'll have to agree to disagree then. The justice system in every country is far from perfect and only in a perfect system would everyone be treated the same. Even so this is not about putting DFG above the law it is about trying to protect your country from political misuse of the justice system. He is going to be charged but charging him without certainty in evidence would be very foolhardy - if he gets off there would be hell to pay from both sides.

@NorthernInvader We hold these truths to be self evident. That all men are created equal.

Treating TFG as special as he continues to crime violates the very foundation of our nation.

@TrueBloodNet My last comment on this thread.

The US (and Canada) justice system does not, nor has it ever, worked like that. Just look at how BIPoC are treated - They absolutely are not treated as equals throughout the justice system from the first moment police authorities are involved up to convictions and sentencing. and are predominant. BIPoC get more convictions and longer sentences for lesser crimes than Caucasians.
