Been sitting on the couch for two days trying to get as much family genealogy traced and saved as possible so I can drop my subscription to My Heritage.
Found some cool stuff! Gilling Castle is my maternal Gdad’s ancestral home…errr…castle.

@NorCalCherylLyn my stepmom was doing that and then reporting to my very religious grandmother her discoveries.
In my family tree is Sarah Towne/Sarah Cloyce - a Salem "witch" and then Archbishop Thomas Becket, whose death was ordered by King Henry
I can't say my grandmother was excited about Sarah Cloyce and that is being kind lol
@Rstrahs I’m kind of worried that I’ll find one of those that burned the “witches”. A Sharpe was a big deal in Salem…”Master Gunner and involved with setting up the Gov of the Massachusetts Colony. Glad he got there LONG before the murders but his descendants could have participated. I’d rather have a Witch!
@NorCalCherylLyn full disclosure, communication in my family is horrible. My sister was making a shirt that said "1692 missed one" or something like that. The year didn't stick out to me, just because that isn't on my mind. Once she said what it was, I asked if she knew our ancestry. My stepmom, who my sister talks to a whole lot more than me, never told her!
@NorCalCherylLyn family is fun! It is also a game of telephone. For example, if my dad has a medical emergency I think I am listed as number 3 to 6 to find out. It really depends on the day.
@Rstrahs treasure their uniqueness while they’re here but don’t get caught up in it. It can make you crazy. Loved my Dad & Step Dad but talking to them could drive me nuts. 🙃😵💫

I use familysearch dot org. It's LDS, but you don't have to give them your data. Census records, military, etc all there and free to access.
@Agatha thank you for that! I will check it out today. I used to try to avoid the LDS sites but having so many Mormon relatives kind of makes that irrelevant. They hold all the records…
Totally understand that. There's no requirement that you host your tree with them. I keep mine separate.
@Agatha I went with My Heritage because they weren’t LDS, they’re Israeli. And the price isn’t bad but after a few years it’s added up.
