So I messed up my schedule and so I wasn't able to get to the gym today.

My parents need their car often in the mornings so if I don't get out by a certain time, it prevents me from going.

I could run outside. I'm equipped to, but I don't exactly feel safe being out to much here with the way thigns are in the US right now.

That struck me as.a surprise. I know Lubbock has hostile people to trans folks, but it's never prevented me from getting out there before.

However, it has been a continual worry of my parents, so much so that my Dad insisted I take an uber instead of jogging down to my gym when it was about a mile from here.

I guess 5 minutes of exposure to a stranger is nominally better than 15 minutes out overland?

The thing is, this is probably over cautious. I've never had to much problem except being yelled at in a bathroom a couple times, but there is a more sinister tilt to the world than there was before for me, here.

Odd.

@NiveusLepus

that's a bummer. having to worry about being harassed or assaulted just for going about your day.

it's just getting 😳😱🤯

@holon42 I understand that there are people that have some growing to do.

I don't want to be harassed or assaulted of course, and that's one of the reason I'm staying close, but if it does happen I hope I can rise to meet that challenge with mindfulness and compassion.

My brother is one of those folks that is quite hostile to trans folks, and he's in law enforcement, and I think my last few interactions with him have granted me pause.

@NiveusLepus

oh dear. that's very close to home. i'm really sorry you're having to deal with that inhumanity🥺

@holon42 I would like things to be different, and if he comes to a point where he can move past that, or he needs help I'm right here for him, but this is the reality of the way things are right now.

Thich Nhat Hanh wrote extensively on this, "no mud no lotus" Is a summation of an ocean of his writing.

@holon42 This is the way.

"A world without suffering is a world without compassion. A world without compassion is hell." -Thich Nhat Hanh
