Helene to slam Georgia, S.C.

Hurricane Helene could sock much of Georgia and South Carolina with hurricane-force winds, which will cause widespread power outages and tree damage. In southern Georgia, a few gusts of 80 to 90 mph are possible. MyRadar meteorologist Matthew Cappucci has an update.

We often talk about the "dirty" side of a tropical cyclone being on the right/east side.

Using the winds layer in the app, it's pretty easy to see how much more powerful the winds are on the eastern side of Hurricane #Helene.

The right side (particularly in the right-front quadrant) is where you often find the strongest winds and the threat of tornadoes.

A tornado watch has been issued until 8 p.m. for all of central and South Florida except the Keys.

Spiral rain bands associated with Helene will exist in an environment of plentiful shear, or changing winds with eight. That will cause downpours to rotate, yielding tornado risk.
