Due to the large size of , there is a danger of life-threatening storm surge along the entire west coast of the Florida Peninsula and Florida Big Bend. The highest inundation of greater than 10 ft is expected along the Florida Big Bend coast. Residents in those areas should follow advice given by local officials and evacuate if told to do so.

Helene has officially been upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane with 80 mph winds.

By tomorrow, it might be 40 to 50 mph stronger. Category 3 or 4 landfall likely.

Breaking: is now a hurricane. Maximum sustained winds have eclipsed the 74 mph threshold; flight-level winds of 77 knots, or 88.6 mph, supports surface winds of hurricane force.
