Me to PCP on virtual visit: “Doc, my neck is killing me, can you give me a physical therapy referral?”
PCP: “We can’t assess this over the phone, why don’t you come in?”
Me to PCP, 2 weeks later: “So about that PT referral?”
PCP: “I think you need to see the spine specialist.”
Me: “I knew you would say that. I have an appointment booked. He’s unavailable until October.”
Why are kids pajamas the most cheaply made clothing item on the market? My kiddo has some sensory issues and cannot stand anything scratchy or raggedy. 😳 Frankly I spent more money on new nightgowns than I did back to school shopping. Gotta shop freaking lands end for a girls pajama that doesn’t pill after the first wash.
I had no expectations for the hospital coffee vending machine. But I fed it my two bucks and came away with a blazing hot mocha that is actually very satisfying. It is literally the only good thing going on in my work day.

Nope. Not done ranting.
August is already 1/3 gone and all the people that have been hired all summer long have been PRN and travelers. And they’re all about to ghost us for back to school season. So the only times we’ll be fully staffed are the times we don’t actually need them (the holidays—when everyone is required to work their holiday shift or get extra attendance points/corrective action that limits your merit raises, ability to transfer, etc)
To break it down further, we have only 3 CNAs and they are at 14 with a potential for 15. (For those of you who may not know, those are the folks giving you or your loved one dignity and care when you need to poo, make sure your booty isn’t hanging out from your gown, clean up your bodily fluids, bring you water, listen to your pain/dementia/delirium fueled rants, and is on the receiving end of most of the violence in the hospital. They’re underpaid/underappreciated AF.)
Woke up cranky.
Got to work and floated to the inpatient surgery and oncology floor. Where we have (checks notes in disbelief) 6 nurses for 42 patients (and 4 open/ready beds.) Each nurse is at 7+patients… with the potential to go up to 8.
Not the best time to be a patient, people.
Not the best time to be #healthcareworkers, for that matter.
Woof.
It’s not Wednesday but Rep. Jasmine Crockett is my woman crush.

Two things to share this morning…
First, at the end of July, @MotherDucker came across this YouTube and sent it to me. It’s about “a spooky little ghost named Emily Dickinson.” You can get the full text of the rap by clicking on the three dots & then clicking on “Description.”

Went to check with my boss about getting my labs drawn during my shift. She said it was totally ok. I said: “I thought I would check. Some people get weird about it. Thanks for not being weird about it.”
“Yeah, no problem. I get it. You wanna touch the fake skin again?”
Me: *dry heaves* “Yeah. I hate that I do want to.”

My “Roman Empire” is that 0️⃣ is the “normal” amount of daily pain. Must be really fucking nice.

Have you ever seen a "PIF" charge on your receipt?
It starts in Colorado......soon developers everywhere are going to start tacking on 1-2.5% to your purchases in the supermarket, big box stores, target/walmart runs, etc to cover *their* business costs. Capitalism is so fucking gross.
I haven't noticed it in the northeast...yet.
So yesterday NE Ohio got hit by severe storms and a tornado. I realized today that it was some sort of freak good fortune that we did not lose power this time around. Most of the neighborhood is out and has been since about 4:30 pm yesterday. After the five day outage we had last year around this time, I’m so grateful.
