Kiddo woke up with the idea in her head that she would write me an instruction book on how to make a bed.
So she went and got her wooden tool box and began laying out a still life reference of tools.
“I thought it was a book on how to make a bed?”
“It is.”
Looking, “Oh! It is! Wow… okay. Eat your breakfast too, ok?”
“Aye aye captain.”

My migraine specialist is a different breed of doctor and I am in love with him. Again, not homewrecker in love, just the I stan him harder than Swifties or BTS army kind of love.

PCP: “I really think he needs to be the one determining this referral.”

Fuck this. Sent a message to my migraine specialist, saying the neck pain was ramping up my migraines. And this morning I have a referral for PT.

Me to PCP on virtual visit: “Doc, my neck is killing me, can you give me a physical therapy referral?”
PCP: “We can’t assess this over the phone, why don’t you come in?”
Me to PCP, 2 weeks later: “So about that PT referral?”
PCP: “I think you need to see the spine specialist.”
Me: “I knew you would say that. I have an appointment booked. He’s unavailable until October.”

Why are kids pajamas the most cheaply made clothing item on the market? My kiddo has some sensory issues and cannot stand anything scratchy or raggedy. 😳 Frankly I spent more money on new nightgowns than I did back to school shopping. Gotta shop freaking lands end for a girls pajama that doesn’t pill after the first wash.

I had no expectations for the hospital coffee vending machine. But I fed it my two bucks and came away with a blazing hot mocha that is actually very satisfying. It is literally the only good thing going on in my work day.

@b4cks4w that being said, during my last two hospitalizations, my mom and husband took me to the toilet so I didn’t pee on myself and helped me out of bed so I didn’t chomp off the head of a poor CNA in a pain-fueled rage.

@b4cks4w it’s a double-edged sword. 🗡️ Full of liability re: patient falls. And if a Medicare patient falls in the hospital, Medicare won’t pay. The hospital eats that. And the trickle down economics surely work when it’s money lost.

August is already 1/3 gone and all the people that have been hired all summer long have been PRN and travelers. And they’re all about to ghost us for back to school season. So the only times we’ll be fully staffed are the times we don’t actually need them (the holidays—when everyone is required to work their holiday shift or get extra attendance points/corrective action that limits your merit raises, ability to transfer, etc)

@amarand yep but that’s only a small factor in the suffering. Healthcare has just never recovered from the mass exodus following Big Healthcare’s fumbling of the immediate response to COVID (nationwide.) It broke things that were already strained. And there seems to be no endeavors to fix it. Just splinting. Splinting and lies.

To break it down further, we have only 3 CNAs and they are at 14 with a potential for 15. (For those of you who may not know, those are the folks giving you or your loved one dignity and care when you need to poo, make sure your booty isn’t hanging out from your gown, clean up your bodily fluids, bring you water, listen to your pain/dementia/delirium fueled rants, and is on the receiving end of most of the violence in the hospital. They’re underpaid/underappreciated AF.)

Woke up cranky.

Got to work and floated to the inpatient surgery and oncology floor. Where we have (checks notes in disbelief) 6 nurses for 42 patients (and 4 open/ready beds.) Each nurse is at 7+patients… with the potential to go up to 8.

Not the best time to be a patient, people.

Not the best time to be #healthcareworkers, for that matter.

Woof.
