I hate the disposable culture we live in. What is the actual reason my Chromebook can no longer receive automatic security updates? Can I manually download them? Why are my only two choices: use it but it won’t be secure or “recycle” it (which we all know they don’t really do?)
Also, I literally only want to use it to help my kid get accustomed to using one because they move from iPads to chromebooks after 1st grade.
Any advice from any of you techie ‘nauts?
@danielbsmith nope. Google does it with their phones too. All their devices have a definitive expiration date. It’s disgusting.

@danielbsmith if you buy an earlier model Chromebook or pixel because you want to save money, you actually don’t save money because they stop supporting the device at a certain set date for each model.
@MotherDucker I stand corrected.
Install a Linux OS?
@KGinKS do I have to be a hacker extraordinaire to do this? How different does Linux look?
I don't know on either. I think computer literate would be good enough. It also probably won't help with the school situation. Didn't think of that when I suggested it.
@MotherDucker Um, that seems wrong. Is it possible you've gotten some kind a malware that is imitating this message? And lying to you?
