This one is almost always used incompletely to reinforce the idea of power over kindness.

"It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both."

When you leave off the second part it loses the message that’s it’s best to be both.

Here is another one that just sounds like an oxymoron the way it’s commonly misused.

“You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”

Makes a lot more sense if said as it was intended:

“You can’t eat the cake and then still have it too.”

When you hear someone say “The Early Bird Gets The Worm” their message is clearly that it’s best to be first.

The original saying is actually “ The Early Bird Gets The Worm, ..but the second mouse gets the cheese.”

The message of the latter is to learn from the mistakes of others rather than trying to be first.

“The proof is in the pudding.”

Commonly used but makes no sense without context. They actually saying is:

“The proof of the pudding is in the eating.”

Meaning you have to try something to know it’s value.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Incomplete and conveys the opposite message as the full saying:

Jack of all trades, master of none ..though often times better than a master of one.

I try not to correct people when they use phrases or quotes incorrectly. But it still bugs me even though I don’t want to be “that guy.”
So I’ve decided to post them here and have some fun with

@HopeNotWorry 100% the community here is much more artistic, reader, writer than what I was used to.

@KBurnett I’m familiar with the aged nog from watching Alton Brown but I’m not that good about planning ahead. Definitely want to try it sometime.

My winter indulgence is homemade eggnog. I use a simple recipe but source the highest quality ingredients I can find. Except for the bourbon, it’s wasteful to use good stuff for cocktails.
Farm fresh eggs, whole goats milk, organic heavy whipping cream, fresh grated nutmeg, and Madagascar premium vanilla. A sprinkle of Vietnamese royal cinnamon after pouring. 🥂

Stranger: Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to 322 Park street?

Me: Oh no problem, so what you do is type the address into your phone and then go where it tells you.

The Wounded Kingdom is a brilliant trilogy and I recommend them to all fantasy readers. Book two {Blood of Assassins} was my least favorite but still very good. Middle books often tend to feel this way for me and I’m sure writing them is tremendously difficult.
I should also mention that the ending of this book is sad but satisfying.

@Jennifelroy i know there is a hashtag for these but I’m not sure exactly what it is maybe?
