You know, the band Journey was REALLY good before that nasally pop Steve Perry guy showed up. The album “Next” from 1977 is more of a prog rock/fusion kind of vibe and makes me wish they’d kept on that track.
@InUnfunky no- I’m not saying Perry is to blame. If there’s a blame to be applied, it’s to Columbia records who wanted to move units.
I’m merely saying that his arrival coincided with a change of direction I find really sad.
Well, that and he sings through his nose. The MAGA-fication and abundant litigiousness are also unfortunate, but what can you do?
Now ya got me looking at their discography so there’s that…😂
Prairie Prince, demo drummer…
Aynsley D, then post-Zappa…
Perry and Rolie, co-singing (with Perry join)
Fleischman? Who? Vinnie Vincent?
And Steve Smith was in Montrose???!
Yes, we know Cain was in the Babys. Ugh.
Well, now I’ve brushed up on my Journey history thank you very much. 😉😱😂
Be good to yourselves! 😝
Hey @InUnfunky don’t stop believing’. 🤣
Now tell me about how good Angel was before they went commercial. 😜
@CanisPundit @MookyTroubadour @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck @Bix
Hey CP —
I’ll be alright without you…there’ll be someone else, I keep telling myself…
Kidding!!! 😁
Also —
Everyone here who knows me knows I HAD NO IDEA WHO OR WHAT “Angel” WAS until I was fortunate enough to hear a certain tune…
“…the pooched-out succulence of his insolent pouting rictus…”
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck @Bix
I could at Guantanamo Bay with electrodes attached for enhanced interrogation and couldn’t name a single Angel song. ⚡️
@CanisPundit @MookyTroubadour @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck @Bix
I heard Punky’s as fluid as Jeff Beck, though…
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck @Bix
Well, now.
@MookyTroubadour
I happen to like him...
In Perry's defense...he admits he ripped off Sam Cooke. 😆 😎
But my universe, I could go the rest of my life never hearing "Oh Sherrie" and I would be 👍
"Foolish Heart," tho? Guilty pleasure BULLSEYE! 😜
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
I agree with "Oh, Sherrie" but People/Places is a wonderful song
@Idissent @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Will check it out; it's been years that "I had to listen to the whole album," ahem. 😉
"Foolish Heart" will pop up every once in a while on the various soft/yacht rock rando mixes coworkers and I torture ourselves with. 😀
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
I can't even remember the album but it's a really good song. One of their best in my opinion
@Idissent @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Sorry; Journey or Perry solo? 🤔
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Journey, never was a big fan of his solo work
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Trey, it's from "Departure" and I just listened to it because it's been a couple decades and I stand by original assessment. It's a really good song
@Idissent @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Gotcha. Saw it on my Journey brush-up.
Thx, Sarah! ❤️👍
Related — a chef I used to work for (he was/is still very much a musical snob, surprise 😁) asked me if I would “sell out” and fill in for Schon (cuz I know all their tunes) if mgmt called me. (Kitchen convos are ALL OVER THE PLACE, you may know) “Hell YES” I said. This was before the Cain Trumpiness.
The songs we know, amirite? 🤔😏
@InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @Bix @CanisPundit @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Absolutely
@InUnfunky @Idissent @MookyTroubadour @Bix @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Pre Perry Journey is a very talented jam band for musicians. Perry made them wealthier than they could ever have been if they stayed the course. It’s a shame, though, that Greg Rolie couldn’t stick it out.
@CanisPundit @InUnfunky @MookyTroubadour @Bix @JoyfullyDazed @Mfieck
Same with R.E.O but I love Kevin Cronin
@Idissent as you wish. I’m not trying to pin ugly things on Perry. He’s merely a marker on a turning point.
@MookyTroubadour
No, you're right
@MookyTroubadour
So you're saying that Steve "I Ripped Off Sam Cooke" Perry ruined Journey?
I see...🤔 🤷♂️ 😉
No one seemed to be complaining -- at least until Perry's solo album. I forget what happened next exactly but "Raised On The Radio" THEN he split.
Nowadays Cain and Schon have bodyguards against each other (I think) cuz Cain (his wife is the Trumpy Jeezo grifter) wants Trumpy to use their tunes. I think? lol
But how's that all Steve Perry's fault? 😂 😉
