Happy (Super) Tuesday!
It's cloudy this morning and was 56 F when I left the house at 4:30 a.m.
If it's primary election day in your state, GO VOTE! Participate in democracy and make your voice heard. Polls are open in VA 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
High if an unseasonably warm 74 F this afternoon.
Make it a kind day!

Today's #BigBand #Standard of the day is the Andrew Sisters' version of "Straighten up and fly right" from 1945.
Enjoy the buzzard and the monkey!

"14 years ago today, on March 1, 2010, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's #Marsrover #Spirit captured this view comprising its final pancam images showing one of its wheels stuck in soft sand around an area in #GusevCrater called Home Plate. Communication from Spirit ended 3 weeks later."
On our day, I can only choose Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" for the #BigBand #Standard.
Such evocative music.

One of the earliest photos of William and #ElizebethSmithFriedman together, spring 1917. William is wearing a sweater & Elizebeth's skirt looks heavier that what she wore in warmer weather.
I love Elizebeth's half-smile!

At the VA with my hubby. So many older men and women of shuffling steps using canes or in wheelchairs.
Hard to recall that they were once young and fit, rucking 70 lb. packs, driving large wheeled or tracked vehicles, listening for sonar pings, landing planes on ships, or jumping out of planes and helicopters.
Time marches on. The old soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines move a little slower now.

Welcome to CoSo! I hope you will soon feel attached to the community here, and enjoy participating.
Today's #BigBand #Standard is Duke Ellington's "Take the 'A' Train." Composed in 1939, this 1962 video is a wonderful version.
Ellington, from D.C., now has a performing arts HS named after him that he could not have attended as a teen -- the former Western High (family alma mater).
When taking my son to visit Columbia, we did take the 'A' train and I hummed along ...
Enjoy!

@MelissaHDavis When in high school I had a dull droning boring history teacher, who turned me off from the subject. Recently I'm catching up, little by little. One thing that got me back into it was when I had a job doing program evaluation for national park grants, I read the students' notes on their park visits. One site that had especially poignant reflections was the James Garfield site. So when I saw the opportunity to transcribe letters from his collection (at LoC), I took it.
Good morning, @LlamaMountainStudioArts! The cold wind makes it a good day to be a sheep, or at least wear creations from their wool. Working on a pair of cabled mittens out of lopi.
Good morning! It's your lagniappe weather report on this last day in February.
Still windy, although not roaring like last night. Temps dropped big time -- 64 F yesterday to 25 F this morning, w/ a wind chill in the low teens F. Sunny w/ highs in the 50s F.
It's just getting light, so I can't see if we lost any trees near the house. I am sure there are lots of branches on our long down-the-mountain driveway.
Be extra kind on this extra day.
That's the weather from the ancient VA Blue Ridge.

Good Leap Day morning!
