Good Groundhog Day Friyay morning!
The whistle pig did not see his shadow so spring should come early to the Blue Ridge.
That does not bring baseball season any faster, however. Sigh.
Temps this morning were the high 40s F and will top out at nearly 60 F -- it feels like spring -- with the sun appearing as the day progresses. We know that winter will have it's say before spring is really here.
That's your daily report from the ancient Blue Ridge.
Have a lovely weekend!

Good Friyay morning!
Today's weather from the ancient Blue Ridge will be delayed until the whistle pig awakes.
Stay tuned.

The Friyay song for the day is Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington on the Ed Sullivan show, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing."
Do-wop, do-wop, do-wop.
Enjoy.

Me at work, opening an envelope: Look! Someone sent me a DoG!
Intern: .....?
Me: Now we can finish accessioning that collection!
Intern: You meant a Deed of Gift?

"Did you have any nerves when you sang at Carnegie Hall?"

"No, I was too busy thinking about being on the same stage as Benny Goodman for his breakthrough 1938 concert!"

I am a nerd. Sing, Sing, Sing indeed.

This is the outcome of shrinking library & archive budgets -- 25 years ago, there were 5 FT staff at the . Working on 20 percent of former staffing is a worldwide library issue that no one talks about because book banning attempts are the headlines.

Do I have a messy desk? Yes, I do. It reflects the reality of a lone arranger/librarian -- not enough time to ever complete anything start to finish; always interrupted by other things demanding time; 15 projects going on at once.

Thos week, there's more deer parts in the garbage can than actual garbage. Thanks, Lucy.

Morning Dr. Ken, you are about early -- must have an early golf time?

I hope all the and fans out there will enjoy this one by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters-- does that take your mind to the past or what?
I know this is harder and harder to do in today's world, but I think we need to, or we risk sinking into the morass.

Good Thursday morning!
I hope your days have begun well, and that unlike me, you haven't had to clean up any dog puke.
It's 34 F heading for a partly cloudy high of 57 F.
It's not even spring yet, but there's a Rockbridge Regional Fair meeting this evening. Can't start planning for the fair too early.
That's the weather and some news from the ancient Blue Ridge.
Let's make it a great day!

Things I misheard as a child: WarWar II.
I must have been 9 or 10 before I understood it was World War II.

"This place is cool. How come I haven't heard of it before?"

We aren't entirely sure, but we suspect that it's because most of the other socials actively suppress any mention of CounterSocialโ€”and have been for years.

Intrepid users who would like bypass their scrubbers could, in theory, post these awesome pictures if they wanted to hypothetically tell others about us. Perhaps.

The knitting shop I frequent Wednesday evenings for a fiber group recently had a painter visit. He took photos (with permission) and painted us! They now hang at House Mountain Yarn.
Perfect likeness? No, but pretty cool.

"I learned very early to try and be one step ahead of public opinion and those Congressman and newspapermen who either help to divert it from its proper perspective or who help shape it."
George C. Marshall, interview Nov. 2, 1959

Van Gogh was famous for his vivid colors. As paints were too expensive to waste in experimentation, he gathered yarn of the same colors and balled them together to study the effect.

This is Vincent's actual yarn and storage box.
