JackJack's big radar-dome ears are out of commission.
He had infected ears, 1st time in the 8 years he has been ours, & infection healed but now he's deaf. He can only hear big sounds like dropping a pan in the kitchen.
He can't hear me tell him what a good boy he is; he can't hear us call him inside; he can't hear the lid on the food bin.
His world, previously full of interesting sounds that he listened to even in sleep has gone silent.
I can see the confusion on his beautiful face.

The vet said it could be temporary; time will tell. Jack is a rescue, and is about 12, so age can be a factor.
He is more sniffy now, and has become my shadow. His sleep is sound, which is a change.
He is also taking clues from our Lab Lucy so he's not missing out on dinner or treats.
@MelissaHDavis
ohhh, that makes me so sad for JackJack. Give him some extra attention and more snuggles.
@thereg001
Absolutely. I put my mouth next to his head, so maybe he can feel the vibration of my speech. Is that silly?
@MelissaHDavis Nope, not silly. ๐
Iโve had two bulldogs with hearing issues due to long ignored or untreated ear infections. ( rescues).
The one had what was called calcified ear. Made me sad for him, gave him extra attention. He had a
few other issues too, unfortunately.
@thereg001
Rescues come with baggage, but I love them.

Just a thought for your vet who I'm sure is ace: Am familiar with this scenario and seen it greatly improved after the eustachian tube openings into the throat were (radically) opened due to circumstances. Of course irrelevant if there's scar tissue in the inner ear. Anyway, hope his scent life is now 200% more interesting
