Officially started the process for a name change! 6 to 8 weeks before I hopefully receive the good news and then can start updating my ss card, license, etc
Also deleted and reposted my last post because I had no idea the CW was even there 🤣
@MarvelousMadi13 Congrats! I hope it's easy and smooth for you.
I found the court side was very simple, but changing everything else... that is a *journey.*
@lenaoflune lol I heard the opposite, guess I'll find out 🤣
@MarvelousMadi13 That's wonderful! I am so happy for you! What's the process where you live?
@Graci Once I get my name change document, then I change my social, then license, then birth certificate and lastly a passport. The name change document will take the longest, from what I've heard anyway.
@MarvelousMadi13 I hope it goes smoothly. Court was scary and exhilarating at the same time.
@Graci I just hope it's fast!!
I've considered just doing a name change, but want to do a gender marker change at the same time... and need to get a doctor's letter for that...
And finding a doctor has been a journey. There are a couple of practices here that I could get a letter from... but I *also* have a lot of health issues and haven't been happy with how those doctors handled my care overall.
*sigh*
Mostly, I strongly resent the gatekeeping and have been resistant to the process because of that.
@tyghebright @MarvelousMadi13 That doctor's letter of gender change is a Golden Ticket. Having it opens a lot of doors, but getting it can be difficult :/
@lenaoflune @tyghebright The women at the court made it seem like it should be easy. If it doesn't get publicized in the newspaper then it should only take 6 weeks, so factoring in mail time I'm hoping around 7 weeks
@MarvelousMadi13 @tyghebright As jacked up as TN can be, we thankfully don't have name change publication requirements -- just a brief discussion with a judge that boils down to, "is this the name you want and are you sure."
Publication requirements are ridiculous :(
@lenaoflune @tyghebright yeah they are kind of dumb, luckily they give you the "option" to not have it, but you need to file a motion and get it approved
@tyghebright The whole thing sucks, the fact they make us go through hoops for all of this is ridiculous!!! Hope you can find some better doctors, many of them sadly aren't very good
@MarvelousMadi13 Keeping my fingers crossed! 💜
