So I've been looking into the name and gender change process and it seems to take a while. The question is, should I start now or wait until the divorce is final (which has been a slow process).

@SaltyVeruca I would very much like to start that process, just don't want it to hinder the divorce process.

@MarvelousMadi13 I don’t know the legalese involved. Do you have support of someone with a similar story or an attorney? Of course I would say never hinder your true self but I’m not transitioning. I’m just an ally.

@SaltyVeruca I have an attorney I reached out, just haven't heard back yet.

@MarvelousMadi13 Definitely formally changing my name was a big and affirming step for me, so I can heartily recommend it. The legal name change order provides a link between your old name and your new name, so it shouldn't impact divorce proceedings, but you may want to check with your lawyer just to be sure.

My general rule is, if something is going to take a long time, getting on it earlier and moving forward is better than waiting :)

@lenaoflune I emailed my lawyer and just waiting for a response. Hopefully it won't impact the divorce or the custody situation.
