Today I bought Spam. I've never had Spam before. I bought it purely out of sheer curiosity. The question is, how good is it? I understand that it's quite popular in Hawaii. I'm curious to know what people around here think of it.

@Magnetron1 Meh. It's a mid-grade mixture of fat, salt and protein. It'll do in a pinch.

@Magnetron1

It's pretty tasty. Slice it up, fry it a bit on both sides so it gets a bit of a crisp.

@Magnetron1 @mcfate I can’t never eat that and Vienna sausages ever again. My childhood’s diet.

@matuzalem @Magnetron1

There's something about the texture of Vienna sausages that I don't like.

@Magnetron1 @mcfate I’ve eaten 1/2 million of them and don’t miss rice with Viena sausages

@Magnetron1

My dad got a taste for it in the army and liked it fried with eggs... We all thought the name stood for Spoiled Ham and tended to steer clear of the stuff.

@Magnetron1

I haven't had Spam for 40 years, when I was obliged to eat it in the Boy Scouts. At that time it came in a little tin with a key that you'd twist to get the lid off.

My recollection is that it wasn't quite as terrible as its reputation made it out to be, but close enough for you to understand how it got that reputation. That is, it was edible enough to stomach, but not good enough to enjoy.

@Magnetron1

I prefer scrapple, but spam will do if you can't find any.
Fry it in a hot pan.

It is okay at best. Grilling or Hot Skillet are the best cooking options in my opinion. Even the low sodium is high in salt so season appropriately.
