ON this date in 1886 - The tuxedo dinner jacket made its U.S. debut in New York City.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple, local bon Vivantes, wore their spiffy attire to the New York Astoria Hotel to get some Porterhouse Steaks.

While there, one of the local lassies came up to Bun Man and uttered the now infamous line "Are you smokin' in that jacket or are you just happy to see me?"

Mr. Purple covered for him by telling the lass "The Boy is prone to fits..."

In the 1880s, that was enough to stop even the most ardent femme.
