ON this date in 1866 - It was formally declared by U.S. President Andrew Johnson that the American Civil War was over.
The fighting had stopped months earlier.

True to form and as a presage to the 21st Century, the American Civil War continued in the Halls of Congress who in a very short period of time decided to impeach Johnson.
Could we all just agree that Congress should be fighting threats to our nation, not who has control or who gets blamed for stuff...
