80 years ago today, the World made a final push to eradicate fascism from Europe.
Will US citizens rise up again for the new fascist threat?
@Madken65 I hope so. We have to all show up because I suspect polls, like everything else now are "purchased".
@Madken65 Sadly like the rest of the world probably not.
I've been researching what my grandfather on my mother's side did in WW2. He worked building the Mulberry Harbours to start with and then I believe he landed in Normandy on the 9th as he was in the Royal Engineers IWT (Inland Water Transport) section. His only comment was that when they got there in a Duck all he could smell was death and dead bodies and the shock of cold water caused him to pee himself. (He said much more about Arnhem).
My Dad did a D-day in Sicily and two D+1s in WWII, but we never discussed much about that time.
@Madken65 I needed to talk to him about it for my History classes at school and he refused. I don't think any of them wanted to remember. (In fact, I was the one who opened the parcel containing his medals). I'm told he was just miserable and intolerant after the war - which he really was. (I was the secret weapon sent in to calm him down as a child).
REMINDER FROM NICK ANDERSON
“It's been 80 years since allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in order to stamp out fascism and make the world safe for democracy. As Mark Twain reportedly said, 'history doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.' Make sure you storm the voting booths in November to help preserve democracy.”-NA
