EP33 of my indie music podcast has dropped. Me and Ben talk about the soundtrack to the apocalypse, and we expand on a conversation that actually started right here on #coso yesterday with @Idissent @AskTheDevil @YouInMyEye @otter405 about separating the art from the artist. As always, there's ten brand new indie rock tracks for your Friday face-melting pleasure, and of course our usual extra goodies. Stream it anywhere or at https://40ficreations.com/letsplayten
๐ง Elbow, "Audio Vertigo". One of the UKs most reliable bands, I can't believe its been 20+ years since their debut. They never let me down. Guy Garvey is a great lyricist and songwriter, pulling emotion from unexpected places and events. The band is constantly trying new things, this album is no exception. As always, a very listenable and enjoyable experience in adult-progressive pop. And it sounds fantastic.
๐ง Roger Waters, "Amused To Death" Thanks to @YouInMyEye for putting this one in my mental queue. It's hard to separate Waters' extremism from his art. He looks at war as an assault on people, so his politics are guided by body count. That being said, ATD, to my ears, is his ultimate anti-war/anti-capitalism statement. One has to respect his dedication to the want for a better world. Lyrically, musically, and production-wise, it's a triumph.
My friend just started up his own label called AVANT NIGHT and tonight is the show celebrating his first release (Sleepytime Gorilla Museumโs first album in 10 years). So itโs an evening of avant-prog-metal. 20 minutes into the first band and iโve already heard ALL the time signatures. The other bands are Isolation Tank Ensemble and Cheer Accident. All recommended for those so inclined.
๐ง Allman Brothers Band, self titled. One of the best debut albums ever. From the twin guitar/drums blast of "Don't Want You No More" to the embryonic "Whipping Post', every song puts Duane's vision on full display. Gregg's vocal reveal in "Not My Cross To Bear" alone made him a legend. I was in an ABB tribute band for many years and we played most of these songs, not easy but a lot of fun (when you got them right).

Ahhh what the hell...
Taking up the 20/20 album challenge. (Prediction, I won't make it)
Day 1 #cosomusic #20for20
๐ง The Bevis Frond, "Focus on Nature". Nick Saloman has been making music as TBF since the 80's, including the essential "New River Head". This is the 30th album and it sounds like a new band with something to prove. It's organic British classic rock, sometimes a little folky, but it rocks a LOT - with multiple dueling wah-wah solo workouts over a generous 75mins. You'll hear a lot of familiar vibes here, and a lot of awesome guitar.
