After 100 years, famed in song and story, SAM ASH music stores is closing ALL of it's locations. Some good friends of mine have worked there or still work there. It's a tremendous loss for the retail music business. They always took it pretty seriously, expanded their offerings into education, promotion, charity, etc. Lots of great memories of the NY and Indy stores. Good luck to everyone about to enter the job market. Sad day.

A very dear friend worked for them for 32 years and his store closed a few weeks ago. He told me that a deal to re-locate him fell through at the last minute, so he had a feeling the end was nigh. Typical story - the stores got too big, they missed the opportunity to adapt to online retail, and they tried to stay true to what musicians wanted and needed. Bummer.
