@AskTheDevil

Oh no, I'd just forgotten and didn't look it up! Hyenas are fantastic; I look forward to it. Our laughter will surely carry across the station then. :)

Well this horrifying ad just popped up. The worst part is hard to pin down, but it's probably a toss-up between encouraging a student to auto-generate a citation without reading it, & the friend claiming she's used for years a tool that only recently had this range of shortcuts.

Talk to your kids/students about this! (Teaching prop, @LaurelGreen?) Have a frank chat about the kinds of critical errors that can slip in if they use this passively.

@AskTheDevil

We'll figure it out, though.

If I'm not mistaken, we have a catch-up date on the far side of Jupiter a few centuries from now. You in a feline form. I haven't decided on my own yet.

Either way--

We'll have a good laugh then, at how much we fretted over trying to be better humans in this lifetime. (At least, if we care to remember how bloody hard it was to be alive in these times at all. I hope that bar off Jupiter serves stiff drinks for the occasion!)

Night, Luce.
Dream well.

@AskTheDevil

I hear that. I'm also working on "cleaning up" right now.

In the last week, I've had to work through pain I've caused myself & others because of a level of empathy that isn't healthy: not a virtue; a risk factor.

It frustrates me that I can't find a better balance. I want so much to live in peace, but I don't always respond properly when people are "drowning" around me. Catering to others' desperate needs isn't always the right call.

So--still working to be a better human, too.

Then either we're in the clear with abusers here, or any abusers here aren't going to admit to their abusive natures, even in an anonymous poll! 🎉 I choose to lean toward the former.

@stueytheround @tippitiwichet

Possibly because Brown has a difficult personal history in which he was abusive to women, including being a violent partner to his wife. His music is a fond part of another era in my life, but I'm glad folks don't identify with him personally!

@cmskiera

Thanks, C.M.

I will strive to be just the *right* amount, if I can. 😉

@ecksmc

Thanks, mate.

I really appreciate that.

Hope this week has been filled with less bullpucky on your end.

@stueytheround

Okay, YES to the blanket fort. Great life choice!

BOO to eventually having to leave said blanket fort, but YES to being there for now!

@AskTheDevil

Nah, I'm not a big fan of accusing people of 'splaining. Most of the time, someone is just trying to be helpful and share knowledge. That's how I read this for sure - and it'll improve how I write my own posts, going forward, so thank you for the incentive to sharpen my prose!

@NiveusLepus

Thank you for this kindness, Rebecca. All the kind comments were unbearable to read through earlier, when my noggin was telling me how insufferable I am and how anyone who truly knows me knows how insufferable I am - but I'm glad to be in a space to receive this grace now.

Big hugs to you. Hope you're doing beautifully, and being kind to yourself, too!

@stueytheround

Right back atcha, Stuey. 🫂

Hope you and Eleanor are doing well and keeping safe, even with life stressors being as they are!

@Lucky188

Thank you for this, JR.

I wasn't in a mental space to receive the smile earlier.

I appreciate it now. 💛

@tippitiwichet @AskTheDevil

The person in question already did something bad to themself, by abusing a shared space with reckless and harmful conduct that required their removal - and in consequence, their loss of friendship and support.

No busted kneecaps or slug to the noggin can ever compare to the damage that person did to themself, by being a bad friend and requiring our dear Luce to intervene to protect everyone else in their home.

@ceorl @JGSchaeffer

Those moments really bring a lot out of us! The sudden realization that everything could have stopped then and there.

But didn't!

Every moment, every breath, a gift - even the really hard ones.

A week ahead of COP16, Tough Times Tuesday is a bit gloomy about our prospects. A recent position paper attempting to tackle Russian oil ships highlights the depth of our global unreadiness to address an accelerating environmental crisis that doesn't give two bits for our borders and our wars. (Maybe pair this one with a funny cat video?)

@ceorl

Treat the soft animal of your body with extra kindness for the next few days!

@ceorl

Good grief, what a fright for both you and your animal familiar. I hope you mind the mental and emotional come-down from a shock like that. It can linger for days as a stress response. 🫂

@LiberalLibrarian

Raphael Lemkin did not fight for the legal term "genocide" to provide a "unique claim", & his initial definition was whittled down by other states in part under the claim that the Nuremberg verdicts (done *without* the term genocide) were sufficient. Other nations in the 40s tightened its range out of concern that too broad a definition would see them culpable for similar.

I recommend Lemkin's biography & 1940s articles for a clearer understanding of the term & its history.

@Blue_Skyesr_here

Don't use money you need to get home, if you can help it! I've sent you a DM to start a thread.
