Conked out after I got home last night and struggled to rise today.

Which is odd, because I'm not actually *doing* much, except a lot of thinking-intensive and people-managing work.

But stress is living in my body, clearly, so I need to solve it.

Fair warning to you fine folks:

Watch for how stress lives in you these next few days.

Our species wasn't made for this. We're supposed to be defending from material threats, not abstract political nightmares and the harm they seed in other brains.

YES.

One other note, that's not just for Agatha but was present in it, too: creators are getting more comfortable with this format, so they will more fearlessly let episodes range in length to match the story. Unbound by the dictates of syndicated television, this is absolutely the correct choice: let each "chapter" run only as long as necessary to tell its part of the story well, and the story as a whole will always be better for it. ♥️

I was shocked by its quality, too. The interwoven writing showed that they conceived of the show holistically (even more so when you get to the ending), which is such a rare treat from a writing team these days. But it also definitely benefitted from its actors: the performances of a few in particular were stunning and necessary for the whole to work. Really great outing.

Didn't get oot n aboot early this morning, so I'm going for an evening run before posting a free-to-read Patreon about life! Industry! The dangers of burnout! The power of grace! And... giving a shirt away, though not technically right off my back.

(You'll see.)

But first, we ride - er, run. 💪🏻

ALFRED SHOPS FOR SHOES

The prompt calls for a picture. Someone wants
a politician and a pumpkin,
and have the caption all in orange, but hey--"orange"
you gonna ask what
Alfred wants? Just because there's a script he has to use
when someone does
doesn't mean it means
nothing to be asked.
Right now, Alfred's thinking
about a new set of loafers.
When he forgets your
pumpkin-politician
remember that--
if he were as real as you
want him to be, he'd have
better things to do.

This might be the most relatable thing these LLMs have done yet.

"It's perilous to anthropomorphize machine learning models, but if this were a human employee, we'd diagnose them with a terminal case of being bored on the job. As seen in a video, Claude decides to blow off writing code, opens Google, and inexplicably browses through beautiful photos of Yellowstone National Park."

"Latent Image" is my favourite moral quandary in VOY. Thanks for resurrecting this thread. Just sorry I'm still an episode behind.

"Tweaking his programming" would bypass the whole moral quandary in his growth arc as an AI; the real test in this episode is the crew's willingness to *let* him have his trauma, when he serves such a critical role for ship's functioning. They pass said test, in honour of new life in all its forms, even if it isn't the easiest thing for them to do!

And... today's brilliant follow-up. 🔥

has been astonishingly forward-looking in its energy investments for decades (& I say this as a Canadian; my country's been a poor performer against peer nations for innovation over the same era). While the rest of South America has had serious blackouts, Colombia's last major system crash was in 1992.

There's so much to learn from how other nations tackle problems and leapfrog ahead of our frozen infrastructure.

(More later!)

No matter what, I carve out time for dedicated Spanish reading, to improve syntax, slang, and overall vocabulary.

(Especially important because so much of my workflow is in English; it's easy to fall into poor Spanish syntax when I'm not switching routinely.)

Just heading out to pick up today's paper, but here were two key articles yesterday: one on Latin American energy crises; the other on the big Colombian challenge, as it tries to phase out oil & gas. Can it handle still-growing demand? 🤞🏻

My nearest tienda del barrio usually has a ton of fruits on its front display case, but tonight there were only bananas: traditional and furry. 🤔

OH DEAR. THIS POST WAS SET TO SELF-DETONATE 💣 💥 🔥

Good morning, you beautiful messy fellow humans.

I thought I was going to start the month on a good note, but I spent the first two hours sending off emails instead of leaving bed, because someone I work with got a little too "email happy" in the middle of the night, and sent off tons of complicating correspondence to other workers.

All cleared up now.

Let's try this "no nonsense November" again.

Here's to making this month a good one in which to be alive.

One more video, then photos. Some music is just hilariously classic and universal.
