We look at setting, character, & species design; the difference between "coherent mistakes" & MacGuffins (plus one "Mac-Goo-fin") across these films; & the fact that familiar tropes *are not a bad thing*. What matters is how they serve.

I'm feeling the absense of consistent characterization and characters acting on their own internal logic very keenly while rewatching S1 of Rings of Power. Was relieved to see something pretty dang solid in Alien: Romulus.

Consistent characterization is a huge bugbear of mine, too. Characters don't have to be "rational" to outsiders, but the way they mess up should always have an internal coherence to it.
