Okay! Today we're talking about Alien: Romulus in the context of writing craft.
To do this, we also explore Alien, as the template, & Prometheus, as a wild deviation for the franchise.
We look at setting, character, & species design; the difference between "coherent mistakes" & MacGuffins (plus one "Mac-Goo-fin") across these films; & the fact that familiar tropes *are not a bad thing*. What matters is how they serve.
Yay! What a delight to see your name pop up. Thanks for sitting with that YouTube video, and your very kind comments on it.
Consistent characterization is a huge bugbear of mine, too. Characters don't have to be "rational" to outsiders, but the way they mess up should always have an internal coherence to it.
Glad you enjoyed the film, too. :)
How does life find you? Has Ursula finished her magnum opus yet?
😬 And is it dangerous to beta read for a critter with claws?
@MLClark Our minds cannot comprehend her works. The alien beauty of it would drive us to madness!
She has a claw to your neck right now, doesn't she? 😅
@MLClark Love your recognition of the goo compartmentalization. Good narrative quarantine protocol.
I'm feeling the absense of consistent characterization and characters acting on their own internal logic very keenly while rewatching S1 of Rings of Power. Was relieved to see something pretty dang solid in Alien: Romulus.
