It's been a heck of a few years eh?
I remember when I thought I had a shot at investment - an agent and a new writing gig - only for the web venture to collapse due to poor corporate culture, and the agent to pass on taking three books to market, after the first failed.
I know some folks assume a lot about me from... my photo, I guess?
But as much as I put my work out in the hope of a connection, I a) routinely feel like a failure, & b) know I'm only decent at best in a sea of many better. /x
@MLClark Just because capitalism doesn't think you should be a billionnaire doesn't mean you aren't a rare gem in a sea of pastes, of great value to those who do recognize it.
I first read "sea of pasties", which made me realize that I am very hungry. I should keep rumbly tumblies in mind as a possible influencer of mood!

Mine too. :) I'm not a gem-head, but I love how useful they are in lasers and water filtration, and how much they vary in coloration--and thus, in formation stories for the world around them.
They glitter out from the recesses of the earth in so many places, sometimes coveted and sometimes entirely passed over, depending on the whims of any given season in human history.
They're the perfect stone for an ol' Devil who shows up and lies in wait most everywhere, too. 😉
@MLClark Yes. And the stones are heavy and colorful because of the iron and other metals in them.
I think I like things with a bit of iron in them.

@MLClark hey, you're doing better than I am! In a better publishing era we would both be solid midlisters. Alas, that isn't this era.
And "decent at best" but still alive and able to keep trying is better than the alternative, so that's okay.
But sometimes I definitely need to sit with my mediocrity awhile, and let the work wash over me (today, more admin tasks & reading, plus hopefully that overdue free Patreon) until I can figure out what direction to take next.
Melancholy Sunday! Going for a walk before the next round of screentime, but again--I have had more chances than most, so I'm not complaining.
