The next step will be to prep this for printing, in a program that'll let me separate colour from b&w.

Oh, me, too. We're at three adjustments already for this piece, and that's after days of revising submissions for consistency, spelling, and grammar. Everyone needs another set of eyes on the work! (Especially after staring at it for so long; the brain has a way of filling in blanks from over-exposure to any given text.)

A few technical notes:
Title: should not have the second "the." It should read:
"The Surface of Last Scattering"
Cover art:
For the online version: the purple CMB, needs much more contrast, (more white showing through the purple).
For the print edition: only 2 colors, so perhaps same as above, The CMB in blue, and the astronaut in black line, punched out of the CMB.
More as I look.
@MLClark As a printer, I want to point out some things (I see you are using Canva)
1. The free version only allows a certain level of bleed. You'll need the 'pro' version in order to set them correctly. Bleeds should be no less than .125" on all sides.
2. Your pages should be singles and not reader spreads. Doesn't matter if it is perfect-bound or saddle stitched (stapled).
3. Your printer will probably need a link to your file so they can make sure it's correct.

Also: if someone wanted to get the final PDF's into a home printable format, for folks to print on their own. That would be cool.
We should allow 2 or 3 weeks for printing, bindery, and mailing.

Update:
The digital edition will be locked at end-of-day, when I port a vectorized version to InDesign to prep the PDFs for the printer's preferred layout and colours (black and blue).
Canva's super-easy for online hosting (for now, at least; we were once considering a "solar" site of our own), but look for @corlin's call for mail-out details next!
