As Google search continues to devolve, are we going to keep using "google" as a verb?
Or should we start popularizing "let me trashfire that for you" instead? 🤔 For integrity's sake?
(I'd suggest "dumpster dive", but you can still find some pretty good things up top in the real-life version, if you go to the right ones!)
I almost never use it anymore, and it seems discordant to say something like "I google that on duckduckgo"
Perhaps best is to stop referring to it at all, as any mention makes it seem like a normal and reasonable choice.
More and more often I find myself saying "I asked an AI", not that they are any more trustworthy, but at least they are of the Now, not the good ole pre-y2k days.
Oh, I like the "I asked an AI" solution. It's upfront, and unflinching about all the potential problems with whatever data you're about to relay next.
Much better than the vague "I looked it up online", which covers all manner of digital illiteracy sins.
I will put that into practice, thanks!
They are great fun! :)
I really appreciate the brain trust here, and the wealth of different perspectives that can be learned from when trying to navigate the strangeness of Life, The Universe, and Everything.
I'm super thankful when people offer ideas from their own experience, share constructive criticism, and sit in dialogue to come up with best practices.
So thanks so much for a proactive solution to a silly problem, and for routinely offering fresh vantage points on weary days!
