Today’s Monday Media Review eases us gently into a new week.

We’re going to revisit some of these themes in heavier ways later on, but for now… let’s just enjoy a nice podcast about pasta, shall we?

whaaat

“ In the early 1900s, the fascists come to power, and they need to figure out how to feed a growing population. They also want to unite the people under one nationalist identity. They decide the solution to both problems is pasta because it’s cheap and easy to make, and it’s already a staple in some parts of the country. So the fascist government builds pasta factories in regions where there were none before, including in Rome.”

holy moly!

The episode simplifies the full regional history, but it's absolutely true that fascist governments were (and are) hyper-focussed on what people "consume" (ideas and products) to ensure uniformity of outlook and cultivate a strong sense of identity.

That said, it's a neat episode! Worth a listen to reflect on how culture is "made" in our lives--and you get to decide how you like your Spaghetti all'Assassina, too. 😉🍝

🤗 Have a lovely one, Kat. I'm so glad we crossed paths today!

That is all so fascinating and thank you so much for sharing that with us here, in your beautiful and so digestible writing style as well 👏👏

Thank you! Likewise! ♥️ @MLClark
