Wee news item for my Ontario friends (and Canadians in general): apparently syphilis is back with a vengeance. If you've got kids, nieces, nephews, neighbours, friends in the age range / actively dating, let them know.
With 2.3 million lacking a primary care physician, it's easy to go too long without testing. Stay safe out there!
Seniors have a different problem with STIs because many have a cavalier "honey, I'm 70+, what's it gonna do to me that death won't do soon enough?" attitude toward testing and prevention. Tough crowd!
In this case, congenital syphilis is rising alongside cases in the common adult demographic - and thankfully that means they're implementing 3rd trimester screening across the board. Poor tykes.
@MLClark Not sure how its setup in Canada but in the US most can get tested free & anonymously for syphilis/other STI's. I got some heat for having a talk with my 14 Y/O niece about STI's (I was like her 'other' parent) and giving her condoms. I didn't ask IF she was sexually active but felt important for her to know risks/safe behavior, before/if she was. Her mom found out about our conversation, when the school called as she was talking to other students about dangers of STI's ๐
just what we need. ๐๐ฅบ๐ฎโ๐จ๐ท๐ต
๐ You can still make all those emoji-faces with your partner(s) of choice! Just make sure you use ๐ก๏ธ and all get tested. ๐๐ป
oh i'm not personally involved. celibate for decades now.
i'm just thinking of the devastating effects of uncontrolled syphilis infections on top of the other plagues making the rounds.
I was lightheartedly teasing around the emojis - but only because it's a rough topic. We have measles rising, too: so many things we could have avoided with a little more care for oneself and others.

@MLClark *yikes. That's a comeback tour no one wants. Tell them to stay safe and stay tested.
@MLClark
In US, I read itโs seniors with highest syphilis rate. Including retirement villages, nursing homes etc.
