I'm going socializing tomorrow night and I'm already anxious about it. I'm going solo, cold/no known contacts, and the person who invited me cannot attend. I might just pretend I'm a spy, in my imagination.
I like to have David Attenborough-style commentary running through my head on such occasions. If in doubt, narrate what you're seeing to yourself the way he would a frog, or a baboon!
