Today I went from writing a piece on Hindu nationalism to catching up on the latest SFF industry SNAFU: a massively corrupt administration behind this year's Hugo noms.
And yes, it's certainly a mess for writers getting arbitrarily blocked from consideration, but...
This is also why I'd become *so* disheartened by industry in the first place.
Nonsense like this keeps folks in crisis bubbles, far from the greater world.
I completely gave up on the Hugo's the last stupid controversy.

I've disliked award circuits for years, but this one's especially galling because a whole lot of nastiness is coming to the surface with an intensity that folks in industry couldn't show for any more important issues in our world. The sheer pettiness of this tempest in a teapot is going to leave quite the stain on many.
(I feel sorry for the sincere and well-intentioned creators caught in the whole mess, mind you. What an unpleasant addition to their experience in the genre.)
