Thought experiment:

With all the changing climactic norms in our overheating world, imagine that you get to rename (and if necessary renumber) all the seasons in your neck of the woods.

How many seasons does your region now have, and what rad/terrifying names do you have for any new ones?

(In Medellรญn it's kind of a cop-out: We have spring and "winter", a ridiculous lie of a word used to describe the autumnal months when there's more rain. Other rainy periods vary year by year.)

@awnaves

Humid is dangerous. :( I hope less humid comes quickly and stays long.

@MLClark

We have winter and hell.

Those are our only seasons in Texas.

(Note: some might disagree and say we only have hell)

@feloneouscat

Hell seems like an understatement this year. Your frozen hells are no joke either. :/

@MLClark It only gets "cold" here for a couple weeks a year, typically late January/early February.

But right now we are definitely in the "more hell" phase.

@MLClark I am not creative with names but I can tell you I sure miss spring and autumn here. Those seasons are getting shorter every year and they are/were my favorite. ๐Ÿƒ ๐Ÿ‚

@IronButterfly

Autumn used to be a whole vibe, eh? In Canada, there's the first major harvest in September (apples!), then another in October (gourds!), and then the transition into nippy November root vegetables (parsnips, turnips!). Such a wealth - which so far still seems more or less stable. But on the spring side? Oof. After false thaws earlier in the year disrupting planting, there's this huge uptick in heat - from frigid in April to roasting in May.

Hope you enjoy what fall may come!

@MLClark When you see Elaine on the porch with her cigar - I am always on the other side of the table so you will know when it's nice out here ๐Ÿ˜Ž

@IronButterfly

Ooooo! Lovely info to know. ๐Ÿ˜Š And how do you usually relax in the good weather? Cigar too? Or another treat? Or just reclining in the good air and taking in the vibes?

@MLClark I am always out there with my kindle and mobile games on my phone. I do not smoke cigars but will sometimes have an adult beverage. I always have an iced tea or seltzer out there too. Mostly I enjoy the fresh air โ˜€๏ธ

@IronButterfly

That is a lovely and restful routine. :) I'm glad self-care is woven into your lives. I hope the weather always favours it!

@MLClark I know your question is serious, but it also reminds me of all of the funny and oh-so-accurate memes out there about Canadian seasons. See below, lol. The big weather changes I've noticed here: less snow in winter and more severe thunderstorms and tornado watches in summer. Maybe 'Summer' below will soon become 'Storms' or, god help us, 'Smoke', but I hope against hope that isn't true...

@LiseL

I was debating posting that myself! ๐Ÿ˜… I just didn't want to give anyone ideas. But thank you - it *so* belongs in this chat.

I think we'd both love a season called "Storms", but "Smoke"? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ No, no I do not like the sound of "Smoke" at all.

@MLClark This summer was the first time I felt frightened for what climate change would mean for us here in Ontario in the near future. The smoke from forest fires really brought it home. ๐Ÿ˜”

@LiseL

When all my Canadian friends and family started checking the AQI daily, my heart sank. Some huge warning signs become normalized all too quickly.

@MLClark You're right. I'm concerned that no one even talks about it now, like it never happened, like it wasn't a big deal. It was a big deal!!!
