👋 Hey, #CoSo!
In a recent call with @th3j35t3r and a bunch of rad fellow #CoSonauts, some of us floated the idea of a #CoSoBookClub. Nonfiction, topical, and with a mind to developing a shared, robust vocabulary around key social issues.
Any interest in such a thing? If so, here are a few polls about the idea, to see what we can make of it:
#1. How often would be good to meet? Using the same book for a meet-up...
@MLClark We have a CoSo book club. You can find it at #CosoUnbanned
All are welcome to join.
@misslovelymess Oh, that's fantastic! What's the subject matter? Are you focussing more on fiction or nonfiction, or whatever strikes the group's fancy that month? Was there a bit of a learning curve to any part of running it on CoSo?
@misslovelymess Wonderful! I'm certainly not trying to detract from a lovely venture just getting off the ground. We had a host of solid nonfiction reading material come up around political issues of the day, so fiction wasn't the plan for this group. More of a conscientious action group starting with dedicated readings. Different tone to the venture, and no reason we can't collaborate as twinned offerings to grow the "reader" side of the site. Did you enjoy _Anxious People_?
It absolutely makes sense, and I'm thrilled there's another book club already in process. This means that folks can pick from a range of reading material, depending on how they feel, and what they want to engage with, in any given month.
I'll definitely follow #CoSoUnbanned and promote whatever your group is reading alongside our choices. Folks should know there's a wealth of conversations to build upon at #CoSo.
Thanks for all your hard work in starting the club!
@MLClark Of course. I can’t take credit for starting it. It’s the work of @Whereverse and I appreciate her work getting it going.
I agree there’s room for all!
@misslovelymess @Whereverse Well then thanks to Whereverse for getting it started, and the whole team for getting the dream off the ground. :)
@MLClark @misslovelymess @Whereverse The phrase “there can only be one” doesn’t apply to book clubs. 🙂 The more the merrier.
@Novels56 @MLClark @misslovelymess That is the truth! The more the merrier I feel like me having COVID has slowed things down for #CoSoUnbanned #cosobooks I hope you all are not waiting on me!
@MLClark It wasn’t bad. I liked the word play and pace.
I see what you are saying. I don’t think that’s something I’d want to do (reading all non fiction), so it’s definitely a different thing. Between the heavy nature of my work, and the reading I already do, I prefer recreational reading to serve a more dissociative role right now. If that makes any sense.
It sounds great for those who might be interested, though.
