👋 Hey, !

In a recent call with @th3j35t3r and a bunch of rad fellow , some of us floated the idea of a . Nonfiction, topical, and with a mind to developing a shared, robust vocabulary around key social issues.

Any interest in such a thing? If so, here are a few polls about the idea, to see what we can make of it:

#3. What topic should we start with, if so?

@MLClark We have a CoSo book club. You can find it at

All are welcome to join.

@misslovelymess Oh, that's fantastic! What's the subject matter? Are you focussing more on fiction or nonfiction, or whatever strikes the group's fancy that month? Was there a bit of a learning curve to any part of running it on CoSo?

@MLClark We just finished our first book, “Anxious People”, and are getting ready to have our discussion.
Waiting on someone to finish.

Anyone can suggest any book, and we vote on it to select the book we are reading. And there was a vote on the name. We just pin the as a column and that’s how we communicate. There are instructions on how to pin as a post in the hashtag.

@misslovelymess Wonderful! I'm certainly not trying to detract from a lovely venture just getting off the ground. We had a host of solid nonfiction reading material come up around political issues of the day, so fiction wasn't the plan for this group. More of a conscientious action group starting with dedicated readings. Different tone to the venture, and no reason we can't collaborate as twinned offerings to grow the "reader" side of the site. Did you enjoy _Anxious People_?

@MLClark It wasn’t bad. I liked the word play and pace.

I see what you are saying. I don’t think that’s something I’d want to do (reading all non fiction), so it’s definitely a different thing. Between the heavy nature of my work, and the reading I already do, I prefer recreational reading to serve a more dissociative role right now. If that makes any sense.

It sounds great for those who might be interested, though.

@misslovelymess

It absolutely makes sense, and I'm thrilled there's another book club already in process. This means that folks can pick from a range of reading material, depending on how they feel, and what they want to engage with, in any given month.

I'll definitely follow and promote whatever your group is reading alongside our choices. Folks should know there's a wealth of conversations to build upon at .

Thanks for all your hard work in starting the club!

@MLClark Of course. I can’t take credit for starting it. It’s the work of @Whereverse and I appreciate her work getting it going.

I agree there’s room for all!

@misslovelymess @Whereverse Well then thanks to Whereverse for getting it started, and the whole team for getting the dream off the ground. :)

@MLClark @misslovelymess @Whereverse The phrase “there can only be one” doesn’t apply to book clubs. 🙂 The more the merrier.

@Novels56 @MLClark @misslovelymess That is the truth! The more the merrier I feel like me having COVID has slowed things down for I hope you all are not waiting on me!

I had seen that hashtag going around but I did not know that’s what it was! @misslovelymess @MLClark

@Armchaircouch @misslovelymess Ditto here! Great to see a range of different interest groups flourishing on !

if it does splinter to have one focused on the issues you have mentioned, I would not be able to do any reading (because I’m focused on my career building and studies related to that, only so many hours in the day!), but I would love to be in on the discussions for learning & possible networking activism benefits @MLClark

@Armchaircouch

That's a great point, & I think it would help if I clarified that through a pinned post for our future chosen hashtag:

No need to read the book to join in the conversation! It might help, but we're all ultimately coming together to share in knowledge and learn from one another with the resources at hand.

It might even become common practice for someone to summarize the book for anyone on the call who hasn't read it, and to use that as a starting point for further discourse.

That would probably open it up to others, perhaps! Come to think of it if the books are able to be made PDF friendly, they could also be listened to with the audio reader on a smart phone. I’m not sure if books can be made to be that way yet, but if there’s some technology out there that does it that would also open up the ability to digest the information! @MLClark

@MLClark Navigating time zones for a CoSocall seems to be a barrier. As soon as the last person reads this book we will start the discussion on the hashtag.

We don’t have themes. Several different genres were proposed. Anxious People won the vote by one vote.

@MLClark

Just saw this part of your thread. Personally, I think a CoSo call would be easier, more effective, and more fun. 👍

@NanaWithSoul FYI, we have a book club you can find at if you want to check it out. Anyone can join.
