Always wondered how Grassley's about filling in for Pence then Pence showed up anyway, fit in to the Jan 6th fun. Pence has a son who is a Marine. They Spoke that day and Pence said he was not overseeing the votes. His son told him that They had both taken the same oath and he was honor bound to do his job. So all the Credit Pence took for growing a spine and saving the country was not quite the case and it was a Marine pushing him to do the right thing that saved the day. #politics
@Tarnagh Pence wasn't going to participate in they're BS, he was going to bow out and Grassley would do the treason - stepping out of their way was so much the Pence we all knew. His son got him to man up and do his job and the right thing in the end.

Grassley *was* really confident that Pence wouldn't be available to preside. I've often wondered what he knew - more importantly, what Pence knew.
Grassley was convinced he'd be presiding over the count and Pence flatly refused to get into the Secret Service car.
