Whoever told me that this surgery is a quick recovery and that iโd feel better immediately was a LIAR.
@dauphin87 Total hip replacement. ๐
@LindaGoodliffe I think I need that. Not looking forward to it.
@dauphin87 Oh no, Iโm so sorry!! Get the new hip replacement surgery where they go in through the front instead of the back. Itโs a lot less invasive, and it is a faster recovery. More and more doctors are doing it. Good luck!!!!
@LindaGoodliffe looks painful!
@dratino It is! I was told it wouldnโt be. ๐ก I should have known better.
@LindaGoodliffe they were probably just trying to reassure you.. all I gotta say pain meds can do wonders!
@LindaGoodliffe Is this your hip?
@see_the_sus Looks like a hip? Was that the Dr that told you? Takes some time...When you are done with the PT, kick the Dr in the crotch.
@Ironworker229 @see_the_sus I will, after he finishes the other other hip (I have to get both done ๐ฉ).
@see_the_sus It is! I had this done on Tuesday.
If you donโt mind me asking, what was wrong that you needed replacement surgery?
I received some crappy news the last week of December. When I got new x-rays of my spine, they did my hips too which Iโd never had before and discovered theyโre narrowing and almost bone-on-bone. ๐ฃ
@see_the_sus I donโt mind at all! It turns out that my hips joints overgrew, which caused the head of the femur to scrape on the inside of the joint every time I pushed my hips passed what the overgrowth would allow. I was a really competitive athlete back in the day, so I pushed that limit A LOT. Hence, Iโm bone on bone in there there now. Thereโs a new hip replacement surgery that has a faster recovery, find a surgeon who does that! Good luck!!
It'll be quite some time before I can get surgery, at least I'm assuming so.
Both knees need to be replaced but this can't happen until I lose at least 60lbs.
I have degenerative disc disease in 3 lower discs & previous procedures I've had haven't helped so I need to see a neurosurgeon. I have to go thru PT again because new insurance won't let me see a surgeon unless I do the therapy, despite it no longer helps.
I'll be seeing a ortho hip dr at the end of February.
@see_the_sus Oh my god, I am so sorry!!!! It kills me that they make people lose weight for these surgeries!!! If I had had to lose weight, I would have been screwed. I could hardly move before surgery, let alone exercise, and I need to exercise to lose weight. My heart goes out to you!!! Iโm confident you can navigate this trip up this mountain, though. ๐ค
Thanks. โฅ๏ธ I had been hoping the requirement would be more around 30-40lbs but yeah, how am I supposed to lose that much weight when my body doesn't want to work?
The really messed up thing is that the more I think about it, the more depressed I get which leads to more eating. It's a vicious cycle. ๐
@see_the_sus Right???! Whenever a doctorโs given me a hard time about my weight (they havenโt since I was FINALLY diagnosed with several diseases that cause weight gain) I immediately go to the grocery store, buy a box of Hagen Das popsicles, and eat the whole box in one sitting! Ugh. Somehow, youโll have to diet your way through this. Can you request an appointment with a dietician? I would.
Well, I probably could but to be honest, a lot of my issues go back to my childhood and my mom's constant comments about my weight. I know how to eat healthy, it's a matter of kicking the demons out of my head. And a friend just gifted me w/ a 3-month WW trial.
I start therapy this week, finally found a clinic after almost a month of looking. I moved back to NM 4 months ago to try to help care for my mom who has dementia and so I've had to reestablish all my doctors, etc.
@see_the_sus It sounds like youโre on the right track!!! I totally understand about demons, though. Mine have a different script, but theyโre still demons.
WW is a great idea!! And, therapy is a must.
Youโve got this!! ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Thanks a lot ๐ฅฒโฅ๏ธ
@LindaGoodliffe What do you call that procedure?
