If you want to blame anyone, blame the press.
The press is important. It changes minds. It is so powerful, the Framers of the Constitution called it the Fourth Estate. It is mentioned SEPARATELY as a fundamental right.
This idea that it is impotent is hilariously wrong.
It is just fucking stupid.
When you have a press SANEWASHING you have a complicit press pushing propaganda.
@POOetryma @feloneouscat Don't forget the Church. America was found on the belief of separation of Chuch and State. So much the founding fathers found the need to write it into the Constitution. The Chuch in England was corrupt. After WW2 The Catholic chuch help Germans escape. 2025 the helped Trump win.
@POOetryma @Liberty4all @feloneouscat Which leads to the only conclusion, they're the worst kind of hypocrites. Pious and judgmental, while never looking in a mirror.
@MakerWerks @POOetryma @Liberty4all
The New Republic writer got so close, then was worried he was condemning a news source:
“Today, the right-wing media sets the news agenda in this country. Not The New York Times. Not The Washington Post (which bent over backwards to exert no influence when Jeff Bezos pulled the paper’s Harris endorsement). Not CBS, NBC, and ABC. The agenda is set by all the outlets I listed in the above paragraph.”
It’s all of the above.
Let me clarify:

@MakerWerks @POOetryma @Liberty4all
2/2
Just because they get ONE STORY right doesn’t excuse the 90% they get wrong or is just outright bullshit.
Propaganda is propaganda.
Why did people want to know more about Harris? Because for four fucking years the news media pretended she didn’t exist.
She was invisible. Prior to this year can you name ONE thing the news told us about her?
This IS the fault of ALL the media, not just Fox News. Remember, they took down Biden’s candidacy.

It WAS NOT Pelosi, she could see the press was going to fuck us over (they still fucked is over). Even the “left” wing comedians played into their hands.
And when it was too late, it was too goddamn late.
It wasn’t Merrick Garland, or Obama, or policy or being black or being female. Trump was the worst candidate in history. The press sanewashed him. They played down his criminality. They played down his sexism “boys will be boys.”
@MakerWerks @POOetryma @Liberty4all
4/5
The press was complicit.
They had one job: tell the truth—and they lied. For four fucking years.
They were stenographers. The both-sides Biden. They pretended Harris didn’t exist. That DEI was hurting our country. That because someone said trans were invading bathrooms it must be a story. That because Trump or Vance said something ludicrous it must be news. Facts? America doesn’t need facts.
Because falsehoods are far more interesting.
@feloneouscat @POOetryma @Liberty4all I've been saying this the entire time. The press in this country has always enjoyed a particular set of freedoms, specifically because of the role they're supposed to be playing in preserving our democracy. There used to be laws limiting media ownership for this exact effing reason.
@feloneouscat @MakerWerks @Liberty4all The Orange Shitclown's fans would have voted for him, no matter what. There could be a video of Ivanka going down on him while he stares blankly, drooling, babbling, shitting his diaper and eating crayons (which pretty much describes his rallies) and they'd still vote for him over even Jesus Christ himself.
@MakerWerks @Liberty4all @feloneouscat Those people are after power. Christianity was the de facto state religion before I was born. Some states and municipalities had laws stating you had to be a Christian "in good standing" to run for or hold any public office, until federal courts declared it unconstitutional. The Church, today, wants that power back. Some want absolute power, to replace our democracy with a hard-line Evangelical Christian theocracy. They're making significant progress.
@POOetryma @Liberty4all @feloneouscat
THIS 500 times!!
I remember hearing the preacher at the evangelical church I attended in the mid-to-late 70s talking about how Christians were having their rights systematically stripped away by "radical liberals" or some such shit. "They came after prayer, and now they want to take our bibles and close down our churches." I was a teen then, and I didn't know any better, so I believed it.
@Tee_Lynn @POOetryma @Liberty4all @feloneouscat It's been feeding itself a steady diet of manufactured grievance, scapegoating and its own supposed moral superiority for decades.
The church discovered that it could create solidarity out of antagonising minority out-groups, and eventually far-right politics found its new power source.
@sumpnlikefaith @POOetryma @Liberty4all @feloneouscat
Direct, concise, and well-condensed. This is good, even though it isn't good.
@Liberty4all @feloneouscat Some Christians never accepted this idea. This is especially true after SCOTUS ruled in the 1960s that religious instruction in public schools is unconstitutional. That fueled the notion that Christians and Christianity were under attack. Trump offers them a chance to regain and expand the power they once held in this country, so they back him, despite his numerous flaws.
