For many, politics are a matter of literal life and death. Your "high-mindedness" is nothing other than condemning those communities while you, for a while, live in comfort. But your comfort will come to an end. Count on that. And then you will have no one to speak for you.

Go all the way. Take it all. Push them into utter penury.

When I started here, I thought I could tone down the politics. Silly man. Either you enter the arena, or you allow your lessers to do so. And they will. And the hits come from both right and left, from people who just want to watch the world burn.

One can't escape politics. It's sad, but it's a fact of life. Wishing to escape from politics is akin to wishing to go off and live away from all of the world's unpleasantness. You might escape for a while, but eventually the world will find you. And your abstention will contribute the the shape of that world.
