@BosmangBeratna Tolkien didn't write much about them, of course. I saw a video a few months back which posited that they went into the East so as to lessen Sauron's hold over the Men there. But, again, there's very little in Tolkien's letters to indicate one way or the other.
@sfleetucker @BosmangBeratna Now THAT would make a great series. As there's so little known, the creators would have a blank slate. Much better than upending canonical lore as "Rings of Power" is doing.

The idea that the Istari didn't know their mission is BS. Hell Gandalf didn't arrive in Middle Earth before the 3rd age, and he did so by ship.
Mithril was just a metal, it had no "mystical" properties other than being light and strong. You didn't need it as a plot device to tell the story of the Rings of Power.
