So.

I'm a Tolkienist. I revere his work. And yes, I'm the kind of guy who looks side-eye at Peter Jackson for the liberties he took in LotR.

But holy hell. I'm reading the Wikipedia page for season 1 of Rings of Power, and what a travesty. I'm shaking my head so hard.

@LiberalLibrarian Do not watch Rings of Power. It's awful for purity or even gestalt. Jackson at least loved Tolkien.

@sfleetucker @LiberalLibrarian *shrug* It’s fun and I’m just not into the whole “I am nerd and must suffer for nerd purity” thing that seems to be happening in nerd culture now.

@EnochianEntropy @LiberalLibrarian

Rings changed fundamental pieces of the lore.

Jackson moved things around a bit but clearly wanted it to be a love letter to Tolkien's work, and keep the underlying message of how defeating corruption is exceptionally hard.

Rings of Power is just making a buck off the name & intellectual property. The effects & makeup are good, but the story really isn't.

Nerd purity is having a cow that there's a black elf or black dwarf, and that isn't what bothers me.

@sfleetucker @LiberalLibrarian

I watched the first season because I was bored and felt like crap. I was less than impressed.

@LiberalLibrarian

Save yourself. Just stop now. They've got money, actors, sets- and could've been great- in a different way- but noooooooo season 2 brings up Sauron as a jeweler who is busy making rings for everyone- the dwarves, the elves, and now MAN.

sigh... there are rules. you can't just CHANGE THE MAGIC!
