@LiberalLibrarian According to the gossip papers (so take that with a grain or twelve of salt), former friends of his claim that he believes God told him to be president, but he had to prove he is worthy of God's mission by enduring abuse.
Which could be complete BS, but it's an interesting story. And implies it's less about fear and more about... maybe crazy.
