The Latino community that attended the small rural school I taught at was very biased against any "Indios"--we had one family that we knew was not primarily Spanish-speaking (and it interfered with their older children's language acquisition). But they would deny it. Even though everyone else in the community knew otherwise--the stigma was too great.
