Friend: Let's do this thing in another town!
Me: Sure!
Friend: Let's carpool!
Me: Oh, honey, no.

Three tickets are under $10 one way and it will take 45 minutes vs a two hour drive in Saturday traffic and all the stress.
@Coctaanatis Yeah, corporation-owned transit was a mistake. You really do want mass transit done at a state or national level so it's not meant to make profit directly. It makes profit from people who pay taxes. But that means looking at who pays taxes in the USA so... sorry about that.
@LianaBrooks lucky. America has a shit rail system
@dawnyriver Some American cities have decent transit. Seattle and Atlanta are both ones I've used. I got around Chicago on trains and the pedway. Denver had a decent bus system. Not quick, but relatively affordable. Korea is just more invested in sustainability and transit than the states.
@dawnyriver The states have challenges that Korea doesn't... like frequent tornadoes and earthquakes.
@LianaBrooks Must be nice. Meanwhile, Amtrak, outside the NE corridor, runs on poorly maintained, freight-rail owned, tracks and gets sidelined by slow freight trains.
