@Sr0bi @Kurtroedeger Ah, the ergot theory. Debunked by experts. Certainly St Anthony's fire was a thing in the Middle Ages. (And I hadn't remembered that Julius Caesar lost legions of soldiers to ergot in Gaul.)
@Kurtroedeger @Sr0bi I admire your optimism. Let's just say that had marshmallows been around during the Inquisition, they populace definitely would have roasted them while burning people. The list of foodstuffs in Church records recorded for celebrations following these burnings is extensive.
