@Kurtroedeger

Yeah, I just saw that on the local news since the girls went down 2-1 in the game.

I thought this quote from the article was very true: "drone spying is just one more depressing example of how humans excel at using our tools to ruin good things in creative new ways."

It's a real shame. 😐

@raspberrypanda @Kurtroedeger
All athletes and coaching staff pledge an oath of fair play at the opening ceremony. This is in direct contravention of that oath. Send the team home.

@stueytheround @Kurtroedeger

It seems especially unnecessary as the Ferns are not a football superpower & Canada are the champs. 🤷‍♀️

@raspberrypanda Yes. Unnecessary and unacceptable. I really think they ought to be disqualified. @Kurtroedeger

@stueytheround @Kurtroedeger

I mean, is it even an Olympic Games without someone being an asshole?

😂 🤐

Yes. I am a firm believer in fair play at all levels of human endeavour.... also a realist and that others don't share my worldview. So humour takes it is. 😆

@raspberrypanda
It's the players I feel sorry for.
They're just there to compete.

@stueytheround

Yup. I don't think they've been sanctioned though.

It gets murky... because where do you see the line between their skill/strategies & what they learned pre-game from the drones.

It sucks all round.

I really hate the drive to compete & win at all costs mentality. And the inability of some folks to ethic their way through that successfully.

@raspberrypanda Teams always used to send scouts to watch and take notes, but this just seems sneaky. Those women have trained hard and their coaching staff have tainted the team's reputation. It's so unfair on them.
I hope they can play on with the loss of staff.

@raspberrypanda @stueytheround Yeah, as a Canadian this is very disappointing and absolutely NOT in the spirit of the games. 😔

@Kurtroedeger @raspberrypanda

The team should be sent home. If the coaches or others connected to the team had knowledge of the spy drone- they should be sanctioned from all future participation . It’s cheating.
