@AskTheDevil hawksmoor by Peter acroyd was recommended to me by an architecture prof. 2 and a half decades ago and I've yet to find someone else who has read it.

Devil's of loudun is Huxley, but it's an accounting of a historic event and not fiction. Really well done.
